Day 8 - Lauwersoog
This post is mis-named as I will be staying in Leens, South of Lauwersoog. Today is a transfer day where I leave the LF9 and go the the start of the LF14 at Lauwersoog; actually near the start as I stop in Leens.
The day starts with a flat tyre which must have happened towards the end of yesterday. As the sun is shining I repair the inner tube before refitting it. It doesn't take long and provides the opportunity to clean and lubricate the chain while the glue is setting and check brake pads eith the wheel out. The pads now look worryingly worn despite being checked before the tour as things always appear more critical when touring. A bollard is ideal for applying a patch.
Despite using a Komoot generated route the cycling is as good as it has been over the last six days in the Netherlands. More windmills.
This is a swing bridge which rotates 90 degrees on the horizontal plane to create an opening; we have them in the UK.
This is a typical 'drawbridge' method of allowing water traffic through. The top beam operates like an extreme see-saw and they are very common.
Passing a bike shop I see it looks well stocked so I go in search of new brake pads. There are so many types I remove mine so we can match them up with those in store. It doesn't take me long to fit the new pads on the front and I adjust both front and rear break pads. Interestingly the bike shop owner is very helpful but is torn between doing my bike fix for me and leaving me to it. It is a common conundrum for bike shop owners as they want to help but are also running a business and need to keep on top of their clients repairs. As it happens I am practiced at replacing brake pads.
A church. This highlights the fact that buildings are all brick built due to the absence of local stone.
Tonight's accommodation is very smart and mostly self-contained.
